Canada's housing crisis is too big to solve with a business-as-usual approach. That's why the federal government is taking a bold new approach with unprecedented investments, to increase housing supply in Canada.
Build Canada Homes is a new federal agency that will build affordable housing at scale. It will leverage public lands, offer flexible financial incentives, attract private capital, facilitate large portfolio projects, and support modern manufacturers to build the homes that Canadians need.
Request for Information
A request for information (RFI) has been posted to engage Canadian firms specializing in modern methods of construction (MMC)—including modular, panelized, and prefabricated systems. By prioritizing modern methods of construction such as factory-build housing, we will spark a more productive homebuilding industry.
Build Canada Homes has three primary functions:
Build affordable homes
Lead the planning, management, and construction of affordable housing, fast-tracking large-scale housing projects across the country—in collaboration with partners—bringing more homes to Canadians, faster
Finance affordable homes
Provide predictable, low-cost financing to support non-market and Indigenous housing providers to grow affordable and community housing in Canada
Catalyze the housing industry
Help generate demand for innovative and sustainable building methods like factory-built and prefabricated construction—helping manufacturers scale up, strengthen supply chains, and create sustainable jobs

Government of Canada Investing in Historic Military Housing Expansion to Support CAF Members and Families
– February 24, 2026
Today, the Honourable David J. McGuinty, Minister of National Defence, visited the Uplands site of Canadian Forces Support Group (Ottawa-Gatineau) to announce the launch of the second phase of Canada's national housing construction program – a major expansion of military housing that plans to deliver approximately 7,500 new Residential Housing Units (RHUs) across Canada.
Canada and British Columbia secure a new partnership to build more homes – February 18, 2026
Build Canada Homes, in partnership with the Province of British Columbia, through BC Housing, are committing to build a minimum of 700 shovel‑ready supportive and transitional homes set to begin construction within the next 12 months. Through this partnership, the governments will also explore delivering at least 400 affordable rental homes using British Columbia’s Digitally Accelerated Standardized Housing program and modern methods of construction. Together, this represents 1,100 homes under this new partnership.
The Government of Canada Introduces the Build Canada Homes Act – February 5, 2026
Today, the Government of Canada introduced the Build Canada Homes Act, legislation that will establish Build Canada Homes as a Crown corporation whose mandate will be dedicated to building affordable housing in communities across the country.
