Build Canada Homes is a new federal agency that will build affordable housing at scale. It will leverage public lands, offer flexible financial incentives, attract private capital, facilitate large portfolio projects, and support modern manufacturers to build the homes that Canadians need.
What makes us different?

By combining flexible financial tools, land access, and development expertise under one roof, we will make it simpler and faster to get big projects off the ground. By prioritizing modern methods of construction such as factory-build housing, we will spark a more productive homebuilding industry.
Build Canada Homes has three primary functions:
Build affordable homes
Lead the planning, management, and construction of affordable housing, fast-tracking large-scale housing projects across the country—in collaboration with partners—bringing more homes to Canadians, faster
Finance affordable homes
Provide predictable, low-cost financing to support non-market and Indigenous housing providers to grow affordable and community housing in Canada
Catalyze the housing industry
Help generate demand for innovative and sustainable building methods like factory-built and prefabricated construction—helping manufacturers scale up, strengthen supply chains, and create sustainable jobs

Lakou pataj projet selected under the Canada-Quebec Memorandum of Understanding
April 8, 2026 - Today, the Honourable Marjorie Michel, Minister of Health, and Céline Haytayan, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy (artificial intelligence, quantum, science and innovation portfolios) and Member of the National Assembly for Laval-des-Rapides, on behalf of the governments of Canada and Quebec, announced the selection of the Lakou pataj project, which will deliver new housing to address significant housing needs in Montréal’s community.
Canada and Quebec partner to deliver hundreds of new affordable, supportive and transitional homes across Quebec
April 2, 2026 - Just two months after confirming the signing a memorandum of understanding related to the deployment of Build Canada Homes funding, the Governments of Canada and Québec are partnering to deliver nearly 865 new affordable homes across Quebec, representing a total investment of $200 million.

March 20, 2026 - The Government of Canada, through Build Canada Homes, and the Province of New Brunswick are partnering on a major affordable housing partnership to accelerate the delivery of up to 1,200 shovel‑ready affordable homes, with the potential to scale to 1,500.
