Finance affordable homes

Build Canada Homes will offer stable, long-term, low-cost financing to private and non-profit housing providers—empowering them to grow their portfolios and prioritize affordable housing.

We will approve projects in bulk and prioritize multi-year projects that use innovative building methods and serve diverse populations, including students, seniors, and Indigenous communities.

Through federal investments, Build Canada Homes will:

  • Provide long-term financing for housing builders.
  • Invest in urgently needed housing: supportive and transitional housing, Indigenous housing, and deeply affordable units.
  • We will also work with provinces, territories, municipalities and Indigenous communities to improve access to supportive and transitional housing.

What this means for Canadians

  • A broader range of affordable housing options for low- and middle-income Canadians—including workers, families, students, and seniors—who are increasingly priced out of the market
  • Expanded access to transitional and supportive housing for those facing homelessness or housing insecurity
  • A housing supply that better reflects the diverse needs of Canadians
  • Coordinated national efforts to improve housing stability across communities

  • Predictable, long-term investment in housing development
  • Growth in the non-market housing sector with reduced reliance on subsidies
  • Economic stimulus through construction, financing, and community development
