Indigenous Consultation Toolkit
The following toolkit provides applicants and recipients of funding an overview of the documents available to help plan and conduct engagement or consultation with Indigenous communities.
The toolkit includes:
- A Guide (for Recipients): The Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada's (HICC) Guide to Recipients for Indigenous Consultation explains how to conduct a consultation process with Indigenous people, for when HICC delegates the process of consultation.
- A letter (for Applicants or Recipients): The notification letter to Indigenous community (template Word document) offers a customizable template notification letter for applicants and funding recipients to use to start sharing project information with potentially impacted Indigenous communities.
- A log (for Applicants or Recipients): The Indigenous Engagement and Consultation Log (template Word document) can be used to document all communications and outcomes of the engagement or consultation process.
- A guide on how to create a Keyhole Markup Language (KML) file (for Applicants): A KML file shows the geographic location of a project and assets and is useful for sharing project information with Indigenous communities. As well, it can identify potentially impacted Indigenous communities when used with the Aboriginal and Treaty Rights Information System (ATRIS).
