Rural Transit Solutions Fund: How to apply

Who can apply?
In order to apply for funding under the Rural Transit Solutions Fund you must ensure that you are listed as an eligible recipient as per the list below. For detailed information on the Rural Transit Solutions Fund, including applicant and project eligibility requirements, please refer to the Applicant guides webpage.
- Municipalities, local and regional governments established under provincial or territorial statute, including local service districts;
- Provinces and territories;
- Public sector bodies that are established by or under provincial or territorial statute, or by regulation, or are wholly-owned by a province, territory, municipal or regional government;
- Indigenous governing bodies;
- Federally or provincially incorporated not-for-profit organizations whose mandate is to improve Indigenous outcomes, organizations serving Indigenous communities living in urban centers and First Nations living off-reserve;
- Indigenous development corporations; and,
- Federally or provincially incorporated not-for-profit organizations.*
*Not-for-profit organizations are eligible to receive funding when an application is submitted on behalf of any primary eligible recipients listed above. They must have documented support from these primary eligible recipients (e.g., a letter of support or a council resolution etc.).
The following are not eligible to apply to the Rural Transit Solutions Fund:
- Individuals/private citizens;
- For profit/private sector organizations; and
- Federal entities, including federal Crown corporations.
How to apply
During intake periods, applications will be accepted through Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada's applicant portal. Applicants should consult the Applicant and the Step-by-step Guides for further information on eligibility and for clear instructions on how to submit an application. All eligible applicants are invited to apply to the Rural Transit Solutions Fund by creating an Applicant Account on the Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada applicant portal. After registration, applicants will be able to access the applications for both the Capital Projects and Planning and Design Projects streams and submit their application(s) through the Portal.
