Graph 1: Departmental Spending Trend Graph
Graph 1 represents Infrastructure Canada's spending and planned spending from 2015-202016 to 2020-202021. The graph describes an increase in spending in 2017-202018 compared to the last two previous years due to the first milestone payment on the Champlain Bridge Corridor project, contributions for new programs including the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund and the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, and an increase in operating expenditures related to the overall increase in FTEs. In 2017-202018, total spending was over $4.3 billion.
Infrastructure spending is projected to continue increasing over the next few years as new programs are implemented. The next phase of the Investing in Canada plan is $33 billion in new infrastructure funding through Integrated Bilateral Agreements which have been signed with all provinces and territories to advance public transit, green infrastructure, rural and northern communities, as well as community, cultural and recreational infrastructure. Infrastructure spending is projected to increase to approximately $6.1 billion in 2018-2019 and to $7.6 billion in 2019-2020.
