The Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Community stream provides up-front, predictable long-term funding to help address local infrastructure priorities. The agreements were renewed for a 10-year period, starting in 2024-25. Over the first five years, the Community stream will invest over $94.5 million in the province of Prince Edward Island to support community growth.
Information for previous years is available at Canada's open portal: Build Communities Strong Fund Community stream Municipal Allocations.
Housing priorities
The Community stream will enable increased housing supply through the following shared housing action priorities, agreed to by Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada and the Government of Prince Edward Island for 2024-25 to 2026-27:
- Develop provincial-level housing targets that will address the identified housing gaps based on evidence of need and develop specific, achievable targets for housing affordability with municipalities that have a population greater than 30,000, with a plan and timeline for reaching these targets;
- Work across all orders of government to leverage public lands to meet housing needs. This should include a strategy to leverage more provincial and municipal lands to meet housing needs, and an approach that supports and aligns with the federal government’s upcoming Public Lands for Homes Plan; and,
- Invest in more government-owned social housing units to support people in core housing needs.
Canada-Prince Edward Island Administrative Agreement
The renewal of this agreement ensures that the essential infrastructure that supports housing will continue to be built, maintained, and expanded in Prince Edward Island.
