The Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Community stream provides up-front, predictable long-term funding to help address local infrastructure priorities. The agreements were renewed for a 10-year period, starting in 2024-25. Over the first five years, the Community stream will invest over $94.5 million in Nunavut to support community growth.
Information for previous years is available at Canada's open portal: Build Communities Strong Fund Community stream Municipal Allocations.
Housing priorities
The Community stream will enable increased housing supply through the following shared housing action priorities, agreed to by Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada and the Government of Nunavut for 2024-25 to 2026-27:
- Support construction technology and productivity improvements including training and skills development on new types of cost-effective and rapidly built housing, such as modular housing.
Canada-Nunavut Administrative Agreement
The renewal of this agreement ensures that essential infrastructure that supports housing will continue to be built, maintained, and expanded in Nunavut.
How the Community stream works in Nunavut
- Number of communities currently receiving funding: 25
- Funding breakdown:

- Up to 4.5% to the Municipal Capacity Building Fund;
- Up to 2.75% to the Critical Infrastructure Fund; and
