Canada's Infrastructure Capital and Repair Expenditures survey
On April 1, 2020, Statistics Canada released the first in an ongoing series of infrastructure focused data as part of its annual Capital and Repair Expenditures (CAPEX) survey. This annual series measures capital investment by both public and private sector organizations, to support economic activity and provide insight into the evolving state of infrastructure. The information is used by Federal and Provincial government departments and agencies, trade associations, academic institutions and international organizations for policy development, as a measure of regional economic activity, and as an indicator of levels of investment in infrastructure by major asset category.
The data provide information on capital expenditures by infrastructure function, as well as capital expenditure funding related to government grants and contributions by level of government.
With the most recent release of data on February 27, 2024, we now have four years of data on capital expenditures on Canadian infrastructure.
Check out Statistics Canada's The Daily articles for analysis, links to the data tables, as well as other information on the CAPEX survey.
