Response to Parliamentary Committees

On December 10, 2013, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance (HCSCF) tabled in the House of Commons a report^iv arising from its study on income inequality in Canada. The report, entitled ''Income Inequality in Canada: An Overview'' contained 24 recommendations, one of which had implications for Infrastructure Canada.

Specifically, Recommendation 5 suggested that the Government of Canada continue to help First Nations to build infrastructure, facilitate local investment and encourage entrepreneurism.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109 of the House of Commons, the HCSCF requested a response to its report within 120 calendar days.

Employment and Social Development Canada led the government response^v, which included input from Infrastructure Canada, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Industry Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada and the Department of Finance. The government response was prepared under cover of a Memorandum to Cabinet, co-signed by the Ministers of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and the Department of Finance and submitted to the Privy Council Office for Cabinet Committee consideration and approval.

The final approved government response was tabled in the House of Commons on April 9, 2014. The government response to Recommendation 5 highlighted the Government commitment to ongoing investments towards the construction, rehabilitation and enhancement of infrastructure, growing the economy and supporting First Nations.

Response to the Auditor General (including to the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development)

Public Accounts of Canada 2013

The Office of the Auditor General's Audit of Public Accounts for 2013 was tabled in the House of Commons on October 30, 2013.

The audit found that the transactions and financial information of Infrastructure Canada were, in all material respects, in accordance with the stated accounting policies of the Government of Canada.

There were no recommendations addressed to the Department.

There were no external audits that included Infrastructure Canada in 2013-2014.
