Through the Investing in Canada Plan, the Government of Canada is investing over $180 billion over 12 years in infrastructure projects across Canada. Below is a list of projects funded through these investments by the following departments and agencies:

The complete number of projects can be calculated by adding the number of entries in each table above to the total number of projects identified in footnotes 1 and 2 (Federal Gas Tax Fund and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation). Please note that in some cases, several projects are represented by a single entry.

The nature of certain projects delivered under the Investing in Canada Plan results in identical projects titles used across multiple projects. These projects generally are delivered by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Indigenous Service Canada and principally relate to housing construction and renovation projects in First Nations communities. Project titles are identical due to comparable projects occurring in the same location. Although project titles are identical, each entry is unique and the costs associated to each project can be identical or can vary.

Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada’s federal Gas Tax Fund is an ongoing and flexible source of funding for municipalities. It can be used immediately for priority projects, banked for later use, or pooled with other communities for shared infrastructure projects. Gas Tax Fund agreements with each province and territory require that recipients produce a publicly available report on the outcomes achieved with the funding they receive that provides information on how the funds are spent. Based on past annual reports, an average of 4,000 projects are funded through the federal Gas Tax Fund each year (starting in 2016-2017).

Footnote 2

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation delivers a number of initiatives through bilateral agreements with provinces and territories (PTs). To protect the privacy and security of survivors of domestic violence, PTs submit aggregated information for some projects. As such, CMHC has program level data for 9,296 projects as listed below:

4,786 projects under the Investment in Affordable Housing.
1,116 projects under the funding for Increasing Affordable Housing for Seniors.
3,228 projects under the funding to Support Shelters for Victims of Family Violence.
13 projects to support the Renovation and Retrofit of Social Housing.
14 projects under the funding for Northern Housing.
139 projects under the FPT Housing Partnership Framework (including 107 projects under Northern Funding).

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has program-level data available for 650 additional projects it delivers, as listed below:

The Aboriginal Capacity and Skills Development program is a social initiative that assists First Nations communities. As such, 464 projects represent the number of First Nation communities assisted.
The Renovation and Retrofit of Social Housing program has 176 additional projects funded where specific project level data is not available.
The Renovation and Retrofit on Reserve program has 10 additional projects funded.

Under the IICP, pre-budget 2016 programs are included although project level information is unavailable for some programs. As such, the federal share of the pre-budget 2016 programs for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Employment and Social Development Canada, Indigenous Services Canada and Transport Canada are not included in this project list, which represents an additional $6.8B in federal share.
