Yorkton’s Path to a Greener Future

In June 2023, the community of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, buzzed with excitement as the Logan Green Pathway had its grand reopening. The upgraded pathway represents progress towards a more sustainable, connected, and active community.

The paved pathway supports different types of transportation, from wheelchairs, to roller blades, skateboards, strollers, and bicycles.

An existing stretch of just over 2.2 kilometres of gravel trail at the Logan Green Pathway has been transformed to smooth asphalt. This upgrade enhances accessibility, ensuring people of all ages and abilities can fully enjoy the space.

But that’s not all! Solar lights have been added every 35 metres along the upgraded pathway to brighten the area. This eco-friendly addition does more than just illuminate the path; it represents Yorkton’s commitment to renewable energy and contributes to a greener, cleaner environment.

The revamped accessible pathway invites the community to embrace healthier, more active lifestyles. And thanks to those solar lights, the fun doesn't have to stop when the sun goes down – residents can enjoy the pathway after dusk, keeping their evenings active and safe.

As summer rolls in, there’s no better time to explore the Logan Green Pathway. Whether you’re commuting to work by bike or taking a leisurely afternoon stroll the pathway offers a scenic and sustainable route for all to enjoy.

Quick facts

  • The Government of Canada invested $331,063 through the COVID-19 Resilience Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Saskatchewan contributed $277,602, with the City of Yorkton responsible for funding the remainder of the project.
  • Construction on the project began in the summer of 2021. Work involved upgrading just over 2.2 kilometres of gravel pathway to asphalt, along with the installation of solar lights and associated works.
