Investing in the Futures of Young Indigenous Moms
Funding provided through Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy.
Everyone in Canada deserves a safe and stable place to call home, but too many people in Canada face the reality of experiencing homelessness. To help address this, the federal government is investing in homelessness prevention and reduction efforts across the country.
In Nanaimo, British Columbia, federal funding supports the program for young mothers at the Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre, which provides short and long-term transitional housing placement and services tailored to meet cultural needs for young Indigenous moms and their children.
With a safe and supportive environment, the program encourages family reintegration, education, health, housing stability, and employment, and opportunities for mothers to participate in their community.
The success of initiatives like the program for young mothers at Tillicum Lelumm highlights how federal investments are making a real difference in communities across Canada, ensuring that families have the opportunity to build a better, healthier future – together.
