A Safe Place for Shaping Young Lives
Funding provided through Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy.
For at-risk youth, accessing the right support can significantly change their life trajectory. For over half a century, Wyndham House, located in Guelph, Ontario, has been providing a safe place to which youth in need can turn. The support services provided by Wyndham House help individuals improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and also empower them with the skills and resources they need to strive towards a brighter future.
Strengthened by federal funding, Wyndham House offers tailored programs and services through their Youth Hub, Youth Emergency Shelter, and Supportive Housing Programs to prevent, reduce, and ultimately end youth homelessness in the community.
Their Youth Hub offers an inclusive and nurturing environment where youth have access to the resources and support that help meet their basic needs, and address the root causes of youth homelessness. These include housing navigation, mental health and substance use counselling, nursing, and primary care. Thanks to a team of youth outreach workers through the Youth In Transition Program, Wyndham House is able to provide support to over 350 youth a year.
For those that need immediate shelter, the 14-bed Youth Emergency Shelter is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. More than just a roof over their heads, the shelter helps youth in crisis with daily meals, essential healthcare, transportation, and community referrals.
Further assistance is offered through Supportive Housing Programs that provide long-term stable living environments for youth who are committed to getting their high school diploma. These programs offer a range of services, including direct access to housing, meals, educational programs, healthcare, skills development, recreational activities, and community-building opportunities to help at-risk youth make healthy decisions and bring a greater level of stability to their lives.
Wyndham House is dedicated to fostering long-term resilience by tackling the root causes of youth homelessness. The federal government’s investment has helped Wyndham House provide vital services to youth at risk or experiencing homelessness. Investing in our youth is investing in our future.
