Pine Lake Trail: Upgrades keeps the Village of Haines Junction connected year‑round

Funding provided through Canada Community-Building Fund

For years, traveling between the Village of Haines Junction and the Pine Lake campground meant driving or navigating a trail that was difficult to follow and not accessible for everyone. Residents and visitors who wanted to explore the outdoors or make short trips had limited safe and convenient options, without relying on a vehicle. Thanks to investments through the Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF), Trans Canada Trail, Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, and Government of Yukon, the 6.8-kilometre Pine Lake Trail has been upgraded into a welcoming, all-season route that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy year-round.

The improved trail now offers a safe, direct access between the village and the campground, while giving residents more opportunities to connect with nature. In warmer months, people can walk, run, and cycle along a smooth, clearly marked path. When winter arrives, the same route becomes a destination for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. These improvements encourage active living, outdoor recreation, and tourism throughout every season. It invites more people to get outside, be active, and enjoy the area’s natural beauty.

With a continuous, reliable link to the campground, the trail makes short trips easier and more enjoyable. Families can plan local outings, and visitors can explore the area’s natural beauty without needing to drive. By enhancing a well-used corridor, the trail strengthens local recreation and supports tourism, helping more people discover what Haines Junction has to offer.

The Pine Lake Trail upgrade shows how well-planned investments can deliver lasting results. The Village of Haines Junction has taken a practical step that improves health, connection, and quality of life. The result is a community asset that brings people together, offers active transportation alternative to vehicle travel for short trips, and makes outdoor activity easier in every season.
