Enhancing Active Living in Northwestern New Brunswick
Funding provided through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program
From rock climbing to gymnastics, the R.G. ‘Bun’ Veysey Centre has you covered when it comes to staying active. Much like a speeding ball off a paddle on one of the new pickleball courts, this expanded facility has quickly transformed how people in the District of Carleton North, in rural northwestern New Brunswick, experience active living.
This project expands on the existing municipal hockey rink, bringing an impressive range of sports and activities to the community. The new gymnasium has hosted high school and recreational basketball games, as well as volleyball, badminton, and pickleball. It also features a fully equipped gymnastics area, complete with two Olympic-sized trampolines, balance beams, a padded floor, and in-ground foam pits. It is now the home of the River Valley Gymnastics club.
The popular rock-climbing wall, where many school groups have gone on field trips, is the only one between Fredericton and Edmundston. Standing 28 feet tall, it offers a variety of climbing routes for all skill levels.
Did you know?
Randolph “Bun” Veysey became one of the few local athletes from rural New Brunswick to be inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame.
Since the centre opened in December 2023, the indoor walking track has seen steady use. The facility also includes a community room that can accommodate up to 50 people and is available for rental.
Named after the late Randolph “Bun” Veysey, a passionate New Brunswick athlete and sports enthusiast, the R.G. ‘Bun’ Veysey Centre has truly expanded and enriched active living opportunities in the District of Carleton North. More than just a sports hub, the Centre has become a vibrant gathering place where residents of all ages can connect, challenge themselves, and build lasting memories. With every game played, every climb scaled, and every milestone celebrated, the spirit of Bun Veysey lives on, inspiring a new generation to stay active, dream big, and come together through sport.
