Pumped for heating upgrades to the Sea View Hall

Funding provided through Canada Community-Building Fund

A small white building with a green roof and an attached stairway sits on a grass lawn. A tall Canadian flagpole stands in the front of the building.

Sea View Hall has taken a practical step to enhance its community space with the installation of a new heat pump in the basement. The hall's basement once lacked reliable climate control, with temperature and humidity swings that encouraged mildew, risked damaging sensitive music equipment, and limited storage and daily use. The existing oil furnace provided heat but did not regulate humidity and was inefficient for year-round temperature control.

For years, the community managed with the limitations, adapting to damp conditions that affected both the building and its use. Now, thanks to an investment through the Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF), Sea View Hall has successfully transformed that challenge into a strength, leveraging it to its full potential.

The new heat pump stabilizes temperature and humidity throughout the hall, protecting stored instruments and supplies while creating a space that is consistently comfortable and reliable. Operated by a community board that meets annually with residents, the hall is available to rent, and this upgrade strengthens its ability to host events, workshops, and programs throughout the year.

Completed in March 2025, the system keeps temperature conditions at safe, stable levels, eliminating the moisture problem and making the basement fully usable once again. A small conference room and open area now serve as a little music academy, with additional space set aside for a ping-pong table, offering local residents a place to learn and play. The oil furnace remains in service as a backup and for quick heat during winter cold snaps.
