Privacy Impact Assessment on the Security Screening Portal

Description

The Security Screening Portal (SSP) is a software solution developed and used by Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada that streamlines the security screening process. At HICC, the portal will replace the existing system used to transmit security screening documentation to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS).

The SSP will be used to directly collect the required information from individuals for security screening and security screening purposes. Individuals will complete the security screening forms electronically in this portal and from there, they may be sent to CSIS for their assessment. The portal also verifies that all security documents are completed and that required fields are included before submission.

HICC has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ISED to provide the SSP as a Software as a Service (SaaS).

Why a privacy impact assessment was completed

A privacy impact assessment was conducted to develop an informed assessment of the privacy risks associated with the personal information collected and used by the SSP and to inform recommendations to mitigate any identified privacy risks to an acceptable level.

Additional information

The following risks have been identified and mitigated: accountability, retention and disposal of personal information, openness and challenging compliance.
